About this listen

The Unified Path is a practical methodology of spiritual growth whose objective is to open the practitioner to the Divine through the use of four elements that together engage the whole person: body, mind, heart, and soul. The Unified Path protects against the hypertrophy or deviation of any one of the four levels by opening the practitioner to the Transcendent. The four elements of the Unified Path, which are present in every authentic religious tradition, are ritual for the body; doctrine, philosophy, and theology for the mind; devotion, prayer, and service for the heart; and practice-of-presence, meditation, and inquiry into personal experience for the soul. More about these below. The Unified Path is a practice, not a belief system, and it is intended not to replace any religion or spiritual tradition you may be practicing, but to make it richer, clearer, and more effective. It is not limited to the conceptual but can—and must—be put into action.2025 Spirituality

    Returning to Presence

A grounding meditation for reconnecting when feeling scattered or distracted.

Pause what you're doing. Let your hands fall to your lap.
Take a slow breath in through your nose… and out through your mouth.

Begin to notice what's around you. The air, the light, the surfaces that hold you.
Feel your body's weight: its contact with the floor, the chair, the fabric of your clothes.

You may have been pulled in many directions today: by screens, conversations, and by your own racing thoughts.
That's okay. This moment invites you back.

Bring your attention to your breath, just as it is. Feel its rhythm.
Let each inhale draw you into now. Let each exhale soften your grip on what came before.

There's nowhere else you need to be. Nothing else to figure out.

Just this breath. This body. This moment.

If your mind wanders again, simply notice: and come back.
Presence isn't about perfection. It's about returning.

Take one more breath. Let it fill you completely and then let it go.

You're here now. And that is enough.

  • Your Soul is Not an Agenda Item
    Feb 19 2026

Your Soul is Not an Agenda Item

Today's contemplation is about the Soul and how it is not an "agenda" or "to-do" item.

In The Unified Path, we speak of the whole person as having four parts, Body, Mind, Heart, and Soul. Depending on our individual spiritual orientation, the "Soul" is the part of us that connects us with Being, the Transcendent, or whatever is Highest for us.

Sometimes we treat the Soul as an agenda item with a due date.

"Can I get enlightened over the weekend? I have an important meeting on Monday, and could use the extra boost."

It doesn't work that way. Even though we do engage the Soul element of our whole self, it is not a chess-piece. We don't deploy it as part of a goal-seeking strategy. Rather, it is our link to the Transcendent. In our spiritual lives, it's more like our silent partner. It serves as the background that brings us closer to our ultimate goal.

To paraphrase the Chinese philosopher Mencius, and I quote,
    (pronounced MEHN-see-us),

"You can't pull on plants to make them grow."

I invite you to consider the following:

Is there ever something in your spiritual life where you try to force your growth?

To speed it up, as if trying to meet a due date?

What would happen if you stepped back, take a sincere, open-armed approach, and let growth happen in its own way? You may feel an opening even right there…

  • Embracing the Unknown Meditation
    Feb 17 2026

    Embracing the Unknown

A practice for meeting uncertainty with openness and quiet trust.

Find a still, supported position: sitting or lying down.

Let your hands rest gently, and close your eyes if it feels comfortable.

Take a long, slow breath in… and fully exhale. Let your breath remind you: even now, you are safe.

Now, bring to mind something unknown in your life. A transition, an unanswered question, a future that feels wide and unwritten. Notice any tightness that arises: perhaps in your chest, or your throat, or your belly.

Just let it be there. Just observe.

There is a part of you that wants answers, clarity, certainty.

But there is another part—quieter, wiser—that knows how to rest in mystery.

Let that part come forward now.

Breathe into the spaciousness of not knowing.

What if you didn't need to figure it all out? What if you simply stayed curious?

Imagine the unknown not as a void, but as a field: open, fertile, full of possibility.

Allow yourself to rest there. With no rush. No map.

    Just breathe and trust.

Now, take a final inhale… and release.

There is something beautiful unfolding. And you don't have to control it.
