About this listen

The wellbeing of staff in schools has never been more important. With almost a third of new staff leaving the profession after just five years and 26% of teachers saying they are thinking of leaving in the next 12 months (National Foundation for Educational Research), we are facing a teacher retention crisis. The We Lead Well Podcast has been created in response to this crisis, to encourage and support schools to create places where people love to work. We support leaders to enhance the wellbeing of all staff in schools. Each week, leading educationalists share their experience, views and tips on how other school leaders can promote wellbeing in their organisations for the benefit of all staff.Copyright 2020 All rights reserved.

  • Sustainable Leadership: Keeping Schools Strong by Protecting Leaders
    Feb 2 2026

For the latest episode of the We Lead Well podcast, I interviewed the exceptional Bridget Harrison about making school leadership sustainable; she shares experience from headship and trust director roles to show why boundaries, reflection and trust matter for leaders and pupils.

In our conversation we covered clarity of purpose, calm decision-making, intentional communication, the importance of pupil and parent voice, and how strong relationships create healthier school cultures.

Practical takeaways include creating conditions where leaders can thrive, prioritising wellbeing and reflection, and embedding purposeful, inclusive routines that support staff and pupils alike.
