  • Episode 2: What to Do with AI in Schools?
    Dec 24 2025

It's been three years since the release of Chat-GPT, which has caused seismic shifts in the way that we think about technology in the classroom, but as Santha and John discuss in this episode, teachers are often left to fend for themselves because there has been little guidance, policies, or professional development to help them. Students from Santha's school join in the conversation to share how they do and do not use AI, and then Santha interviews Katy Tibbs, an Educational Technology Specialist for the Multnomah County Educational Service District, who shares some practical advice to teachers seeking to successfully integrate AI into the classroom.

Here are some AI literacy lesson resources:

Common Sense Media AI Literacy Lessons for 6-12

Day of AI Curriculum Resources (created by MIT)

Stanford CRAFT lessons (these are lessons that Stanford has curated from multiple sources but many focus on ethics)

aiEDU has Elementary lessons, secondary lessons and their snapshots are quick warm-ups that are specific to different subject areas

  • Episode 1: The Past, Present, and Future of Book Bans
    Oct 9 2025

PEN America has documented nearly 23,000 book bans in public schools nationwide since 2021 with nearly 7,000 taking place in the 2024-25 school year. Coinciding with Banned Books Week, Santha and John discuss their own personal experiences with censorship in the classroom, which pale in comparison to the challenges faced by their colleagues in Florida, Texas, Tennessee, and others. Then, Dr. Ann David, professor at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio and co-editor of The Impacts of Censorship, joins the conversation to offer some context on the national picture of censorship in schools, as well as a practical "how-to" guide for teachers who face book challenges.

Dr. Ann David’s Recommendations and Other Resources:

    • Dangerous Ideas: A Brief History of Censorship in the West, from the Ancients to Fake News by Eric Berkowitz
    • National Report of Teacher’s Experiences with School Justification for Book Censorship Ricki Ginzberg, Kyungae Che
    • School Moms: Parent Activism, Partisan Politics, and the Battle for Public Education by Laura Pappano
    • Justice Sonia Sotomayor's dissent in Mahmoud v. Taylor
