The Mandalorian and Grogu movie is not doing as well as Disney and Lucasfilm had hoped. That doesn't mean it's not a good movie! The public can't be forced to spend money and fans already have, so there's some work to do for them to find out what will keep fans coming back and what will get more people to give it a watch. This is the Way Podcast knows that pain. Maybe there's a new way with an app to watch it in theaters with director commentary?

Starfighter may already have a rough cut and some people in Europe might have seen footage! A model maker passes away and he's got quite the resume. There is news from a Summer Games Fest and there's news of a different kind of fest from France. It seems Quantic Dreams isn't playing fair. Fate of the Old Republic continues to hire, Galactic Racers gets closer to release, and ZERO Company starts a promotional push.

Collectors continue to quickly consume more product when it comes to Grogu and specialty items from the Hasbro Pulse website. Disney Parks goers may be getting a new way to consume food and drink in Batuu this year, and of course, there's another "word" for those who follow the only way to heaven.

    May 31 2026

The Mandalorian and Grogu movie has arrived! How did it perform? Was it the best movie Lucasfilm has released since Rise of Skywalker? Of course! It's the ONLY Star Wars movie released since that one in 2019! Maul: Shadow Lord's first season is over and we know there will be a season two, but Ahsoka might not end after it's sophomore season. We have to wait for 2027 to find out and by that time, we'll be gearing up for another Star Wars movie!

There's gaming news on Knights of the Old Republic and the spiritual successor, Fate of the Old Republic. Eclipse seems to need developers, which means it isn't cancelled. Collectors have lots to collect, like LEGO sets and Hasbro figures and there's even a chance someone can bring home Grogu (for the right price).

There's a new ride mode in Galaxy's Edge and new planets to visit, new merchandise in the stalls of Batuu and a new show on the spires. Two legends in the Star Wars space pass into the Force and we have another "word" for you this month.

  • 218. This is the Way We Observe May the Fourth 2026
    May 4 2026

    "Happy May the Fourth!"

It's that time for another special episode of This is the Way Podcast, but it's a little less special than years past.

I tried, "fam" I really tried. I was perhaps a little too hopeful that one of three people I asked would say yes to an interview, but next year, I'll try my sister. Brother, mother, and sister-in-law all said "no thanks" to an interview. Is that because they don't love Star Wars enough to do it? Yes. Oh, they still like Star Wars, but not enough to help a "brother" (son) out.

This year it's not Andor or Ahsoka, but The Mandalorian and Grogu that's the topic du jour. Next year it will be Starfighter, of course, but for now, let's enjoy our little green guy and battle buddy in beskar. Once again, I've got 365 days to plan (a little better) for May the Fourth...the 2027 edition.

If you'd like to comment, please send email to the address mentioned during the podcast, but comments on YouTube, on Facebook, Instagram, X, or Spotify are also fine. May the Fourth be with you in 2026!

    Apr 30 2026

Maul: Shadow Lord's first season is coming to a close and we're very close to the next Star Wars movie debut. Ahsoka's second season is in post-production and Starfighter has an editor that's returning to work with Levy and is familiar with stories from a galaxy, far, far away.

Cara Dune might not be done and Galactic Racers might be arriving soon. Hasbro Pulse seems to be saving new products for Star Wars Day, but LEGO snuck something into the store that at the very least, we didn't see last time. Episode 217 isn't one of the longest, but you've got Disney parks news and another edition of "This is the Word."

    Apr 1 2026

We've made it to the third month of 2026 and there's more news on the current slate of shows and movies in the Lucasfilm and Disney pipeline. Maul, Ahsoka, The Mandalorian, Grogu, and a bunch of star pilots that like to dogfight among the stars.

In episode 215, there's news about D23 this August, Disney Parks news thanks to a new CEO at Disney, a note on the change at the head of Lucasfilm, news for gamers, news for collectors, and a prayer for people looking for a way to heaven in our segment called "This is the Word."

  • 215. February 2026 This is the Way Podcast Star Wars News Update
    Feb 28 2026

Month two of 2026 saw a full trailer of this year's live action addition to the Star Wars movie catalog. The This is the Way Podcast discussion on the trailer is our 214th episode and our 213th was our annual Star Wars Podcast Day edition. Episode 215 is our February news update.

Deciphering Marrok and The Crow and the Eleventh Brother is a difficult prospect. All Star Wars characters, but there are only two. Which are actually the same? Does a collectible leak solve the issue? Shawn Levy may be responsible for bringing a goose to the franchise. A racing game reveals more features before release. LEGO sets out new sets and Hasbro is still showing off how quickly they sell out of a limited stock.

  • 214. This is the Way We Watch The Mandalorian and Grogu Trailer
    Feb 17 2026

The first full trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu movie was released on StarWars.com (and Disney and Lucasfilm social media websites) on February 17th, 2026. There’s footage no one has seen before, not even those who attended Star Wars Celebration in Japan last year! That’s great news, because the marketing team heard plenty of boos from the crowds watching the NFL’s “big game” because the beer-like commercial homage didn’t have much and it didn’t even point to a more complete look online.

Some of the revelations from the video are interesting, like a possible new mentor for Grogu, a “deck of cards” like bounty hunting quest, and a sweet new pram for “Baby Yoda” toward the end. Also, was that Marty voicing that Ardennian food trucker? Sources say it was indeed Scorsese!

We have a closer look at the Hutts and even hear one speak. The resurging ex-Imperials set a meeting in a snowy place, Din Djarin does indeed seem to face off against ‘ol “Stinky”, and we once again see the Anzellans, some Dejarik holo chess pieces come to life, and a new serpent or dragon species to stoke our fears of wading in dark water. Yo! Embo! Is that you? I have the feeling he won’t last long in the movie. Movie! Yes! Movie, not show! It’s coming soon! A little over three months to go!

The movie releases May 22nd, 2026 and though there are sure to be more trailers as it gets closer, this will probably be our last time reviewing it before we see it. Stay tuned to our social media and make sure to check back in with us for future podcasts. We released a #StarWarsPodcastDay2026 episode earlier this month and have monthly news updates. We plan on a special episode for May the Fourth, and we have coverage of all three seasons of The Mandalorian show from Disney Plus in our archives. There’s much more, too, like Andor coverage, Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and even the first season of Visions. We plan on continuing to cover live action Star Wars shows, like Ahsoka’s second season, but if you’re looking for commentary about The Acolyte, well, we were taught not to say anything if you can’t say something nice. For that show, we can’t.

Despite being a special episode of This is the Way Podcast, you can still join in the discussion by sending a comment to the email address we reveal in our podcasts. Including a good subject line will help set you apart from spam. There are other ways to interact with This is the Way Podcast, like via Instagram or 'X' (@ThisistheWayPod) or on Facebook, Spotify or here on YouTube, but we also have a Discord channel. • 213. This is the Way We Observe Star Wars Podcast Day 2026
    Feb 7 2026

Once again we are celebrating the beginnings of podcasting for a galaxy far, far away. It's #StarWarsPodcastDay2026 and this year, This is the Way Podcast is talking about the leadership change at Lucasfilm.February 7th, 2026 marks the sixth anniversary for #SWPD, but it was 27 years ago when Jedi Talk began "audio blogging" with an internet radio show called Jedi Talk. Daniel C of Star Wars, Now This is Podcasting has been researching the beginnings of Star Wars podcasting and even though the first RSS fed shows didn't come out until later and the term "podcast" wasn't en vogue years after that, our research agrees that Jedi Talk seems to be the first to mass distribute their Star Wars centered show, thanks to internet hosting. As for This is the Way Podcast, we're at six years and counting and 213 episodes as of this special edition. This is still a mostly audio only version of a podcast, but as time has allowed, graphics and perhaps someday video will be added. If #SWPD2026 has brought you here for the first time, we hope you'll check out more episodes. Send feedback by the email address mentioned during the podcast or interact via X, Instagram, or Facebook @ThisistheWayPod. There are many podcasts out there releasing special episodes today and you can find them by visiting the celebration Instagram page @starwarspodday or on X or the Facebook page for the #starwarspodcastday2026 event. May the Force be with us always!
