If you've ever found yourself reading a headline, scrolling through social media, or walking away from a difficult conversation thinking, "There has to be more to this than what everyone is saying," then you're in the right place.

We're two therapists with different training, different experiences, and different ways of looking at the world. While we don't always approach a topic from the same clinical framework, we share one important belief: people are complex, relationships are complex, and very few things in life have a simple answer.

That's the heart of this podcast.

Each episode, we'll take a current event, cultural trend, social media conversation, or common life stressor and explore it through a clinical lens. Sometimes we'll agree. Sometimes we'll see things differently. More often than not, we'll discover that the most meaningful conversations happen somewhere in the middle.

Our goal isn't to tell you what to think. It's to help you think more deeply.

  • Diagnosis vs. Labels in the Age of Social Media
    Jul 17 2026

A friend watches a video and starts wondering if they have ADHD.

Someone finally finds the words that make their whole life make sense.

Someone else worries a label just puts them in a box.

In Episode 2 of Thoughtfully Wired, Jake Ross and Liz David take on diagnosis vs. labels from two very different chairs. Jake is a licensed clinical social worker and founder of The Ross Wellness Group, working primarily with men. Liz is a licensed marriage and family therapist, owner of Hope in Healing Therapy, and founder of the Liz David Collective. Neither is trying to win, they're trying to see what the other one sees.

    In this episode:

    • What people are actually trying to say when they reach for words like "narcissist" or "gaslighting"
    • Why selfish isn't narcissistic, and disagreement isn't gaslighting
    • When a label opens a door... and when it becomes a cage
    • Jake on his own ADHD diagnosis, and the difference between a starting point and a wall
    • How to validate someone's pain without co-signing their explanation
    • "Certainty is the enemy of change"

They close with a case vignette: a 32-year-old professional, burnt out and convinced by social media that he has ADHD, asks directly, "Can you tell me if I have ADHD, or should I keep looking for someone who will?" Jake and Liz each take it, then compare what they did differently.

Two therapists. Two different maps. Same destination.

Hold your experiences with confidence. Hold your conclusions with humility.

Thoughtfully Wired is a conversation between two therapists, it is not therapy. If you are in crisis, please seek appropriate support.

  • Everyone's Setting Boundaries... But What Does That Mean?
    Jul 9 2026

    "Set your boundaries."

It's one of the most common pieces of advice you'll hear today. From social media to the workplace to personal relationships, boundary-setting has become part of our everyday language. But are we all talking about the same thing?

In this episode, we explore one of today's most popular mental health concepts through a systems lens. Rather than asking whether boundaries are "good" or "bad," we ask a more interesting question: What do people actually mean when they say they're setting a boundary?

As therapists with different training and perspectives, we discuss why boundary language has become so culturally significant, where it helps people create healthier relationships, and where it can sometimes become confused with avoidance, emotional distance, or self-protection. We also examine how family systems theory offers a broader understanding of boundaries—not simply as lines we draw, but as patterns that shape connection, closeness, and autonomy.

This conversation isn't about providing the "right" answer. It's about slowing down, exploring the nuance, and inviting thoughtful discussion around a topic that affects all of us.

Whether you're someone trying to navigate difficult relationships, a fan of psychology, or simply curious about the conversations shaping today's culture, we hope this episode gives you a new way to think about one of the most talked-about concepts in mental health.

Thoughtful conversations. Multiple perspectives. No simple answers.
