• 12 Hawaii's Bird Extinction Crisis (Dr. Lindsay Young)
    May 31 2022
Due to their status as one of the most isolated landmasses in the world, the Hawaiian islands are home to a diverse population of wildlife. This is particularly the case for birds. Unfortunately, Hawaii's diverse bird population is rapidly dwindling. Many bird species in Hawaii have already gone extinct and many of those that remain are in severe danger of going extinct in the near future. On this episode of Transmissions from Hawaii, Dr. Lindsay Young of Pacific Rim Conservation joins us to discuss Hawaii's bird extinction crisis. Subscribe

  • 06 Insurrection Part 3: The Story of Larsen v. Hawaiian Kingdom
    Jul 26 2021

In 1893 the government of the Hawaiian Kingdom was overthrown. However, that does not mean that it simply disappeared. In fact, in 2001, the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Netherlands verified the continued existence of the government of the Hawaiian Kingdom. But why is this? Didn't the United States annex Hawaii? Isn't Hawaii a state? How can it be that the government of the Hawaiian Kingdom still exists even though the country doesn't? On this final installment of Insurrection--a three part mini-series by Transmissions from Hawaii--Dr. Keanu Sai answers all these questions and more.
