My conversation today (October 6, 2023) with Ralph Saunders, well-known cartagropher and historian in the Billings area, about Captain Grant Marsh's piloting of the Josephine up the Yellowstone River to the area that's now Billings twice in the 1870s. We also touched on recent archeological work that has shed further light on William Clark's trip down the Yellowstone in 1806 when he was heading to a rendezvous with Meriwether Lewis at the confluence of the Yellowstone and Missouri rivers, to start the final stage of their exploration of the newly-acquired Louisiana Territory.
