  • Chatting with Sophie Pt.2
    Nov 16 2020

    Good Monday everyone,

This is the second, and final, part of my chat with Sophie. If you haven't caught the first chat I suggest you go check it out as I introduce Sophie and it sets the theme for this episode. Like part 1 we, or Sophie at least, talks rather openly about her struggles with mental health following her brain injury. We talk about the fine line of healthy vs unhealthy control as well as her experiences of using antidepressants and other medication in her recovery. To close, Sophie talks about where she is currently and what she feels is missing from her life at this moment in time.

We spoke for hours when recording this and there was plenty of topics we could have explored further, and much more we could have chatted about so hopefully this won't be the last time that Sophie features on the show.

Thanks for listening and if you're affected by anything covered in this episode, or any others please to reach out.

    Until next time, take care.

  • Chatting with Sophie
    Nov 9 2020

As we start another week in lockdown 2.0 here in England I chat with Sophie McCormack. This is the first of a 2 parter, the second of which will be released next week. I hope this sets the scene a little as to who Sophie is and where she's come from after a horse riding accident a few years ago.

I met Sophie right at the start of my time at uni. While waiting for a group ride I saw this person pushing their bike down the hill. Clearly upset she said explained how she had just got this bike but it was broken. All that needed doing was the chain hooking on but I guess that never happens with horses.

Personally I find Sophie a huge inspiration, both in what she has overcome but also her outlook, drive and will to succeed, something which we touch upon this episode that may not always be healthy.

If there's anything we discuss that you would like to talk about further, or if you know someone that you think should be on the show please do get in touch and let me know.

    Take care

    Thanks.

  • Chatting with Sion
    Oct 26 2020

Hi, Happy Monday now that the clocks have gone back and Autumn seems to be here for the long haul.

For this instalment of TTL I sat down with Sion, ive known Sion for a few years now. We met when racing in north Wales at some of my favourite races and have gone on to train together and race all over the UK against each other. I think its pretty clear from the outset as to Sions passion for sport and coaching, which is ultimately why he and his partner ben have set up Tritanium performance coaching. Sion has a huge background, from working in a school to psychology qualifications. I particularly found that the part about needing a coach as a friend really resonated with me and left me questioning how, if at all, the constraints of the current coronavirus situation will change the demands placed on coaches and what 'athletes' require from them.

As always, if you'd like to leave any feedback, or to chat about anything discussed drop me a message on instagram @trying_through_life.

Thanks for listening and take care. Until next time...
