THE THREE LEVELS OFPREVENTIVE HEALTHCAREAs per W H O guidelines,Preventive health care is categorized into three levels: primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention.Primary PreventionPrimary prevention focuses on averting the onset of diseases inindividuals who are currently healthy. It involves promoting healthy lifestylesand eliminating harmful habits such as smoking and excessive alcoholconsumption. Primary prevention is achievable via Health promotion activities thatdo not target a specific disease or condition but rather promote health andwell-being on a very general level. These are: Non-clinicallife choices such as : · Eating nutritious meals· Exercising daily· Yoga· Running· Walking· Cycling· Yoga Secondary prevention aims to identify diseases in their early stages, enabling prompt intervention and reducing the progression and severity of theillness. Regular screenings andmedical check-ups play a crucial role in detecting conditions like hypertension, highcholesterol, and certain types of cancer. Early detection allows fortimely treatment, leading to better outcomes and improved prognosis.Secondary disease prevention space may have been managed so far using Routinescreening tests and medical check-ups but the fact to note here is thatthese techniques help in early detection only while the disease process hasspilled into the Blood which is Level 5 of Disease progression andtherefore the results so far have not been very encouraging towards reducingMorbidity and mortality. Let me ask you all. What is the point ofdetecting a cancer biomarker while it has reached the blood level already andis ready to affect an organ soon?To understand it further wewill need to understand the different stages that a disease processflows up to the Organ level and we will take it up in detail as we proceed stepby step towards understanding the concept of Preventive health care inhe upcoming chapters of the book. However in recent times with the advancement of healthcare technologies, themost promising technology that has emerged and that has shown excellent resultsin achieving secondary prevention is Voice analysis, which iscapable of detecting any disease while it is at the initial stages of the mind-The root cause analysis Voice analysis as asecondary disease prevention tool deals with latent diseases and attempts to preventasymptomatic disease from progressing to symptomatic disease. Voice analysis aimsto detect and treat a disease early on. Inother words, Voice analysis helps in "earlydiagnosis and prompt treatment" to contain the disease and prevent itsspread to other individuals, and "disabilitylimitation" to prevent potential future complications and disabilitiesfrom the disease and therefore follows WHO guidelines towards Secondarydisease prevention completely, unlike other methods utilized so far by theMedical fraternityTertiary prevention revolves around managing and minimizing the impact of chronic diseasesto prevent further complications, disability, or premature death. This level ofprevention involves rehabilitation, disease management programs, and supportsystems to enhance the quality of life for individuals living with chronicconditions. Tertiary prevention (TheAllopathic Traditional Medicine)Attempts to reduce the damage caused by symptomatic disease byfocusing on mental, physical, and social rehabilitation. · Preventing pain and damage.· Halting progression and complications fromdisease· Restoring the health and functions of theindividuals affected by disease The World Health Organization (WHO) has set standards fordisease prevention, but it is aware of certain shortcomings that need to beaddressed. Theseinclude a lack of modalities, methods, or techniques that can bring about rootcause analysis, and the inability to take disease prevention beyond the levelof primary prevention due to the non-availability of tools to do so. It is onlywhen these two points are fully addressed that disease prevention can beachieved.Wellness is a journey that aims to reverse the disease process orprevent a disease from manifesting in the body. However, its mission can onlybe accomplished when there are modalities that address the root cause of adisease. This raises the question of whether allopathy or holistic healing canhelp in this regard. The lack of a modality to prevent disease progressionmakes it difficult to achieve disease prevention.
