I’m Millie Johnson host and producer of the Warm Welcome podcast.


I’ve been following the Warm Welcome campaign, and what struck me about this particular campaign was its importance in bringing local communities and people together by giving them a warm space to meet and connect, which helped some combat loneliness and helped others with some mental health issues. Everyone deserves and enjoys a Warm Welcome.

    As I walked around the room and approached people to have a chat, most declined, and I was unsure if I was going to be able to speak with anyone, but then the lovely Paul decided he wanted to share his experience of visiting his Warm Welcome space. So, Paul and I sat down with a cuppa and talked about how all are welcome.

    In this episode, I speak to two Warm Welcome hosts and we talk about their community needs and how those needs are matched by their Warm Welcome spaces.

    I have a lovely chat with Kerry Wilding in Morecambe, in the North West of England and Kerry offers some useful tips on running a Warm Welcome space and the importance of listening to the people that come.

    I then go down south to East London and have a chat with the Reverend Polly Kersys-Hull. Polly talks about what their Warm Welcome space offers and the lessons learned and the joy from serving such a diverse community. Polly also ends the episode with a quote that starts with ‘Hope has two daughters….’. Listen to find out what this great quote is. Enjoy!

    In this first episode, we dive deeper into what a Warm Welcome space is, where these spaces are in the UK and who they are for.


    For the first episode, I wanted to go back to the beginning and find out how and why this campaign started. I couldn’t think of a more perfect person to share this journey than David Barclay, the Warm Welcome Campaign Director. David explains how and why it all began, how it evolved, who is welcome, what’s next, and how you can get involved.
