  • Dog Tag Discovered After 80 Years: A Soldier’s Story
    Nov 7 2025

When a set of World War II dog tags are discovered nearly eight decades after being lost, an incredible story begins to unfold. In this episode, we follow the journey of a soldier’s legacy — how one small piece of metal connects generations, sparks emotions, and brings history back to life.

In honor of all our Veterans, we’re proud to share the remarkable story of Eddie Rosso, a lifelong resident of Springfield, Massachusetts. A graduate of Springfield Technical High School, Eddie was attending Northeastern University when he answered the call to serve in the United States Army during World War II.

He graduated from Officer Candidate School with the rank of First Lieutenant and went on to serve heroically in the Normandy Invasion, continuing through France to the Alsace region. His bravery earned him several commendations, including the Infantryman’s Medal, a Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart.

After returning home, Eddie opened Eddie’s Market in Springfield in 1954—a neighborhood staple that still operates today as Eddie’s Liquors.

In this special episode, Eddie’s son, Fran Rosso, and grandson, Kippy Rosso, join us to share the incredible story of how Eddie’s long-lost dog tags were discovered in France, and the unforgettable journey they took as a family to retrieve them—culminating in a heartfelt celebration held in his honor on French soil.

When in Springfield visit Eddie Rosso’s legacy – Eddie’s Liquors – 896 Allen Street.
