In 2008, a prominent pastor from Australia shared that he was battling cancer. What came out of his struggle with cancer was a song he wrote, “Healer,” which became the world-wide anthem for Christians battling their own illnesses. However, the history of this moving song is much darker and stranger than anyone could guess. This church scandal and many like it are sadly all too common. But why do so many prominent pastors seem to get caught committing awful sins, or even crimes? And how can we as the church do better to protect our communities from such scandals?
