About this listen
Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as a member of Parliament today following his conviction in the 2019 defamation case. However, the seeds of this event were sown nearly a decade ago.
When he was the Congress vice-president and tore away the 2013 ordinance that sought to overturn the rule that disqualifies convicted MPs and MLAs. This was done to nullify the SC verdict striking down Section 8(4) of the RP Act, which gave protection to convicted MPs from disqualification for three months.
