  • Is Alaska the Key to Energy Security?
    Jul 15 2026

As tensions around the Strait of Hormuz escalate and energy markets face renewed uncertainty, Alex Wolfe explores whether Alaska could offer part of the answer. The episode begins with Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy before moving to the Atlantic Council's 10th Global Energy Forum, where policymakers and industry leaders discuss the future of global energy security.

Joining the conversation are Governor Dunleavy, Repsol CEO Josu Jon Imaz and former US Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette, who examine why secure shipping routes, regulatory certainty and long-term investment are becoming just as important as the resources themselves.

The discussion comes as Repsol announces a $3 billion investment in Alaska, highlighting growing confidence in the state's strategic role. As governments and investors rethink global supply chains, the episode asks whether Alaska could become one of the world's most important and dependable energy hubs.

Many thanks to Atlantic Council for providing us with the footage of 'Day 1 — Energy Stage - Imaz and Dunleavy Session' from their 10th Global Energy Forum

  • World Energy by the Numbers: Big Questions with Energy Institute CEO Dr Nick Wayth
    Jul 8 2026

The 75th edition of the Statistical Review of World Energy, published by the Energy Institute, isn’t just another report. It’s one of the key benchmarks for understanding how the global energy system is actually evolving. In this episode, Energy Institute CEO Dr Nick Wayth joins host Alex Wolfe to unpack what the data is really showing beneath the headlines.

The picture isn’t a simple shift to renewables. Solar and wind are growing quickly, and low-carbon power is now meeting all new electricity demand. But overall energy demand is still rising, driven by AI, data centres, cooling, aviation and broader global growth.

That’s where the tension lies. Energy security is back at the top of the agenda and different regions are taking very different paths including: China’s rapid electrification, US gas and data center expansion and Europe’s grid constraints. The real question now isn’t just what we build, but whether we can build fast enough to keep up.
