Show NotesEpisode Title: Turning the Tides: Toni Eastwood on Courage, Confidence & Creating a Life on Your TermsPodcast: Real Women Stories in Partnership with Women On PurposeHost: Lisa QuaitGuest: Toni Eastwood OBE MBA✨ Episode IntroductionThis week, the tables turn. Instead of being the one asking the questions, I step into the guest seat as Lisa Quait interviews me for a powerful, emotional, and deeply honest conversation about confidence, courage, and creating a life on your own terms. From leaving school with no qualifications and being bullied into silence, to becoming a national trailblazer for women in business, building million-pound ventures, and ultimately redesigning life and work from the sunshine of Spain – this episode is not a highlight reel. It’s the real story. This conversation is for anyone who has ever:Felt they didn’t fitFollowed the “right path” only to feel deeply unhappyBuilt success that looked good on paper but felt emptyKnown they wanted more freedom, but didn’t know how to get thereIt’s about redefining success, trusting yourself, and having the courage to choose a life that actually feels like yours.🔥 Episode HighlightsFrom bullied schoolgirl to business trailblazerToni shares how early experiences of bullying shaped her confidence and her lifelong drive to help others rise.Helping everyone else… but not herselfThe irony of supporting thousands to start businesses while struggling to voice her own ambitions. The corporate dream that became a nightmareLanding the “ultimate” corporate role and realising almost immediately it was completely wrong. The coffee-shop breaking pointWalking out of a senior role, sitting in a Bradford café in tears, and deciding never to work for anyone else again. The napkin momentWriting the words: “I’m going to help a million women have the career of their life.”Designing life before businessWhy time freedom, autonomy, and alignment matter more than titles, turnover, or ticking boxes.🌱 Key TakeawaysConfidence is built through action - not qualificationsYou don’t become confident then act. You act first, and confidence follows.Success without alignment comes at a costMoney, status, and prestige mean nothing if you’re unhappy in your body and life. You are not behind - you’re becomingNothing is wasted. Every experience feeds the work you’re meant to do.Stop waiting for permissionNo one is coming to tap you on the shoulder and say “now you’re ready”.Comparison is the confidence killerEspecially in the age of social media - your path is allowed to look different.Freedom requires decisionTo decide is to cut off other options. You can’t stay on the hamster wheel and expect a new life.It doesn’t matter how - it matters whatClarity of desire comes before clarity of process.💬 Best Moments“I thought that was the worst day of my life – and it wasn’t.”“You don’t build confidence and then take action. You take action, and that’s what builds confidence.”“I had financial freedom… but I didn’t have life freedom.”“No one else can be you. No one else has lived your life.”“I never want to look back and say ‘I wish I’d tried.’”“It doesn’t matter when you get there. It matters that you’re moving towards what you want.”🧭 Tools & Concepts MentionedWOOP Method - Wish, Outcome, Obstacles, PlanA simple but powerful framework Toni uses with clients (and their children) to move from desire to action. The ‘Letter to Yourself’ exerciseWriting from the future as if the life you want already exists – clarity before certainty.🤍 Work With MeReady to create clarity, confidence, and freedom in your Business and Life?Book a call: https://tinyurl.com/BookACallWithToniFollow Real Women Stories and connect with Lisa https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/real-womens-stories-with-lisa-quait/id1769667587https://www.instagram.com/lisaquait?igsh=MWppZ2g4aHFic24yNw%3D%3D&utm_source=qrhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/real-women-coach?utm_source=share&utm_campaign=share_via&utm_content=profile&utm_medium=ios_app Hosted on Acast. • Jenny Mitchell on serviced accommodation, resilience, menopause, ADHD and living your best life
    Jan 17 2026
This one is a proper real chat with Jenny Mitchell. Straight talking, no fluff, plenty of laughs, and a few “yep, been there” moments. We kick off talking about the kind of “free” events that are not really free (you know the ones), and then Jenny takes us into her story. From running a cleaning business, to stepping in and taking the lead on the serviced accommodation business during lockdown, to building a niche in contract bookings and long term stays. But it’s not just business. We go into the messy midlife mix too. Menopause, ADHD diagnosis later in life, and why so many women are only now realising what’s been going on under the bonnet for years. Jenny’s big message is simple. Stop using labels as the reason you cannot. Put your big girls pants on, build the systems, and keep punching. And yes, we end with a quick rapid fire, including Jenny’s current favourite book recommendation (and it is a spicy one). The best bits“Ropey courses” and the aggressive upsell that makes you want to call a cabJenny’s lockdown pivot and the rock bottom caravan chapterWhy she avoids the Airbnb hamster wheel and focuses on direct contract bookingsThe menopause conversation that led into ADHD being flagged via a questionnaireJenny’s take on ADHD being a superpower if you learn how to handle itThe reality of getting out of the weeds, and why her Ops Manager was a game changerMoney talk, unapologetically, plus doing good work through contracts that support vulnerable peopleKey takeaways1) Your pivot might start in survival modeJenny did not build this business from a perfectly planned strategy. It grew through lockdown pressure, key worker stays, and a willingness to learn fast and step up.2) Niche beats noiseShe is clear that her lane is direct bookings and longer stays, building relationships with companies, not chasing holiday maker bookings.3) Training matters, not “I did a free course so I’m an expert now”Jenny calls out the illusion of competence. If you do not truly know your stuff, you cannot sell it properly.4) Midlife can be the moment you finally understand yourselfMenopause. ADHD. That constant mental load. This chat will land for a lot of women who have spent years thinking they were “just a bit much” or “not normal”.5) Systems buy your freedomLists, structure, and support. Jenny’s proof point is being able to run the business from her phone, and still live her life.Quotable quotes“On one of those ropey courses… and then someone wants to march you to the back of the room.”“We sold a family home before the lockdown, and we lived in a caravan… we’ve been rock bottom.”“Big girls pants on and just keep punching.”“They take a free day course… ‘I’m a professional now, I’ve got a certificate.’ Yeah, it’s bollocks.”“I like doing direct bookings. That’s my niche.”“It’s a superpower. You’ve just got to know how to handle it.”“I wake up at one in the morning sometimes, and my list is going.”“People don’t want to put the work in. They want you to come along and make it all better.”“Life’s too short, isn’t it?”“I can run my business from my phone… living the best life.”That book - here's the deetsThe Power of the Pussy: Get What You Want From Men: Love, Respect, Commitment and More! - Kara KingConnect with JennyIf you want to connect with Jenny about serviced accommodation, contract bookings, or getting support from her team (including Ops Manager support), check out her links below:Contact : +441403599341Instagram: jensm70Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jenny.mitchell.1481Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenny-mitchell-7886b079/Website: www.topstayhosting.comAnd if you’re sat there thinking, “I need to get out of the weeds too”, and you want 1:1 support with clarity, structure, and growth, you know where I am. • Sir Jacobs: Building a Brand People Love & Connect With
    Jan 9 2026

This episode goes a bit deeper.

Not in a dramatic way. Not in a “let’s be profound” way. But in the way that happens when you slow down, sit with people you trust, and talk honestly about why certain things matter.

In Part 2 of this Sir Jacobs mini-series, I’m joined by Mitch and his mum Crystal. And what unfolds is one of those conversations that starts with product, but very quickly becomes about life, values, courage, and the choices we make along the way.

It’s about what we allow into our homes.

    • What we put on our skin.
    • What we light at the end of the day.
    • And what those small choices say about who we are and how we want to live.

This is not a glossy brand story.

It’s a real conversation about craft, care, and building something that actually means something.

What we talk about in this episode
    • How Sir Jacobs started as a passion project and a bit of a risk, long before it became a brand others wanted to be part of
    • Why handmade really matters, and why not everything deserves to make it out of the studio
    • The discipline of doing things properly, even when nobody is watching
    • How scent becomes part of your life without you even realising it
    • The idea of ritual, from lighting a candle at the end of the day to creating a feeling when someone walks through your door
    • What legacy really looks like when you strip away the noise
    • Why choosing your vessel and choosing your fragrance is about identity, not interiors
    • Sustainability as a way of working, not a marketing line

Moments that really landed for me

There are a few moments in this episode that stayed with me.

Crystal describing her first Sir Jacobs piece as something solid and grounding, almost like it had always existed.

The attention given to the base of a ceramic vessel, even though most people will never look at it.

The honesty about smashing pieces that are not right, even when that hurts financially.

Mitch talking about the courage it took to step away from safe options and back something uncertain.

And the quiet realisation that Sir Jacobs is not just something you buy, it becomes something you live with.

What this episode is really about

    This conversation is about integrity.

    About not cutting corners.

    • About caring deeply.
    • About choosing to do things slowly and properly in a world that rewards speed and shortcuts.

    It’s also about pride.

    • Pride in craft.
    • Pride in where things are made.
    • Pride in creating something that feels considered and respectful.

And if I’m honest, it’s also about noticing how rare that is.

One line that sums it up

“When you build something with care and intention, people feel it. They might not be able to explain why, but they know.”

    That’s what stayed with me.

    My final thought

This episode is a reminder to pause and notice what’s around you.

    Not just what looks good.

    • But what feels right.
    • What lasts.
    • What carries meaning.

Because the things we surround ourselves with shape our days more than we realise.
