In Teheran 1936 geboren kam er mit 14 Jahren nach Deutschland. Der Germanist, Philosoph und Iranist übersetzte persische Literatur ins Deutsche und begleitete analytisch und engagiert die politische Entwicklung in Iran seit den 60er Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts. Er gilt als einer der besten Kenner der iranischen politischen Verhältnisse.
