Als der ehemalige Strafverteidiger Jan de Fries mitten in der Nacht von seinem Kumpel Uz zu Hilfe gerufen wird, ahnt er schon, dass etwas ganz und gar nicht stimmt in der Krummhörn. Seine Ermittlungen treiben Jan in eine Reihe brutaler und zutiefst beunruhigender Ereignisse und er wird auf dramatische Weise mit seinen ureigenen Ängsten konfrontiert. In einer fahlen Vollmondnacht schließlich muss er zu den Greetsieler Zwillingsmühlen.
