But when Bedouin bandits raid the camp, Annja barely escapes with her life...and half of a scroll in ancient Kufic script. Her companions' survival now depends on her.

When Annja Creed catches wind of the strange discovery, the TV host and archaeologist rushes to join the dig. But the superstitious locals are furious, fearing the excavation has angered one of the chewing dead - those who rise from their graves to feast on human flesh and blood. And soon she and her colleagues are facing down violent mobs and death threats. As far as Annja is concerned, though, the vampire myth is a load of bunk. Then a child goes missing.

It’s a perilous desert journey through sandstorms and bandits, and complicated by mysterious sabotage within the group, to arrive at a long-forgotten fortress deep beneath a mountain.

Deep in an archaeological dig in England's Midlands, Annja locates a braided necklace around a mummified king's neck. Made of an unusual material - not quite obsidian, but gleaming with multihued color - the torc is an astonishing find. But someone knows exactly what the torc means. And he will do anything to get his hands on the Tear of the Gods. When the dig is compromised and innocent archaeologists are slain, even Annja herself is left for dead. Now she is fleeing for her life, not knowing the terrifying truth about the relic she risks everything to protect.

Computerforensiker Schröder steht vor dem Systemcrash. Zum einen ist da seine neue Kollegin Harriet – klug und sexy wie Seven of Nine aus Star Trek. Zum anderen ermittelt er in einem mysteriösen Mordfall: Ein Nerd wurde erschossen, sein Rechner zerstört. Mit einem Trick gelingt es Schröder und Harriet, die Daten zu retten. Dabei finden sie zahlreiche Bilder des Mondes, die das Opfer für die NASA restauriert hat. Was hat der Tote auf den Mondfotos entdeckt, das er nicht sehen durfte? Eine Spur führt Schröder und Harriet ins pulsierende Las Vegas und dort von einer brenzligen Situation in die nächste.

Ein Anschlag auf das Kölner Polizeipräsidium versetzt das BKA in höchste Alarmbereitschaft. Während Ansgar David vom BKA versucht, die Hintermänner des Anschlages zu finden, überzeugt der amerikanische Geheimdienst den ehemaligen Topagenten Peter Walsh davon, einen letzten Auftrag anzunehmen, um einen gefährlichen Islamisten in Deutschland zu verhaften. Es scheint Berührungspunkte zwischen den beiden Fällen zu geben, doch zunächst ahnen Walsh und Ansgar nichts davon. Je enger sie jeder einzeln das Netz um die Verdächtigen ziehen, desto größer wird die Gefahr, in die sie sich begeben.

Als bei der Explosion einer Autobombe eine junge Frau und ihre Tochter ums Leben kommen, setzt die Kölner Kriminalpolizei um den Ermittler Lasse Brandt alles daran, die Täter schnell zu fassen, auch aus Sorge, dass weitere Taten geplant sein könnten. Noch ahnt Brandt nicht, dass der Anschlag dem ehemaligen US-Topagenten Peter Walsh galt. Auch Walsh sucht die Täter, weil bei dem Attentat sein bester Freund schwer verletzt wurde. Aber im Gegensatz zu Brandt, sinnt er auf Rache und ist dafür bereit, über Leichen zu gehen.

Als der BKA Beamte Ansgar David zu sich kommt, findet er sich gefesselt und nackt in einem dunklen kalten Raum wieder. Er ist schwer verletzt und kann sich nicht erinnern, was geschehen ist oder wer ihn entführt hat. Nur langsam kommen die Erinnerungen an die schreckliche Wahrheit zurück. Und als er begreift, wer für die Entführung verantwortlich ist, ist das Urteil über sein Leben schon gefällt. Das BKA und Peter Walsh, ein ehemaliger Top Agent des US-Militärgeheimdienstes, versuchen ihn zu retten. Sie vermuten Terroristen hinter der Entführung.

Wolf Siebel hat seinen Pilotenschein gemacht. Atemberaubende Erlebnisse und wunderschöne Ausblicke begeistern ihn beim Fliegen. Das entspannt ihn auch von seinem Beruf als Direktor einer Hamburger Bank. Dort passiert ein heimtückischer Mord. Kommissarin Mary Fischer übernimmt den Fall. Siebel lädt sie zu einem Flug nach Sylt ein. Berauschende Szenen im Meer und in den Dünen bringen die beiden näher; sie werden ein Paar. Wer war der Mörder an dem Vorstandsmitglied der Hamburger Bank? Er stand bei der Verwirklichung eines interessanten Geschäftes im Wege.
