Though deaf, Taylor helped lead John McGraw's New York Giants to the pennant, winning 115 games between 1900 and 1908. But an injury relegates him to the minors, and he dreams of one last shot at the big barnstorming trip to Cuba.

Liz and Iris are determined to learn how to play baseball. It’s the bank's day out on Sunday, and the employees of the bank have been divided in to baseball teams. George is captain of one of them and Mt Atturbury is captain of the other one. However, they won’t be playing this year, as a new rule means that you can’t play unless your wife plays. Liz and Iris take it upon themselves to ring the bank and put themselves forward, even though they know very little about baseball!
