TGIF used to mean happy hour drinks or curling up with delivery pizza. But when you live in an inn for paranormal beings, the end of the week often signals the beginning of chaos. And this Friday? A banshee has invaded the basement, I've shifted from human to cat three times in one day (a personal record I never wanted to set), and my confidential files at SPA headquarters have mysteriously vanished. Getting rid of the shrieking banshee is priority number one, and all we have to do is solve a local murder.

After the death of a grandfather he never knew, Caleb Holdstock inherits a mysterious mansion. The place needs a lot of work if its to be liveable, but the truly strange thing about it is what's in the basement. A doorway drawn in chalk. It seems harmless at first, until a midnight encounter with a silver-haired elf proves that this doorway is, in fact, the entrance to another world. With knowledge of a magical world beyond Earth, Caleb's life will never be the same again. And the best thing about it? He can travel back and forth freely.

Caleb Holdstock never expected to find himself with the ability to open portals to other worlds. He definitely never expected to find himself a citizen in a place called the Wyrdworld. What he could have never predicted, even in his wildest dreams, would be that he'd find himself running for senator in this fantasy world. But here he is, putting himself forward as the latest candidate for office in the Celestial Senate.

After discovering the ability to improve items by opening portals into them, Caleb's life has changed completely. With an elf girlfriend from a fantasy world, as well as his own childhood sweetheart, things are looking up. When the reality of his elf girlfriend's debts become clear, Caleb offers to help pay them off. It'll mean crossing the threshold into the Wyrdworld and meeting with her vampiric creditors. To say Caleb is a little tentative would be putting it lightly.
