Det är den 13 juni 2007 och paret Rut och Finn Teisen har varit försvunna i flera dagar. Deras bil hade stått orörd vid hamnen på den ö de bor på i Fyns skärgård, och deras båt är försvunnen. Polisen kopplas in i ärendet, och de får snart veta att parets båt ligger dåligt förtöjd vid en närliggande ö, låst och utan någon ombord. Båten, en Vikness 880, var välkänd i området. Det var en 24 fots motorbåt värd närmare en miljon. Eftersom båtens förtöjts så dåligt efter att den flyttats så hade andra båtägare i hamnen hållit ett öga på den.
