You'd think that life would finally be dealing Mack Smith a kind hand. Living in London and with the opening of the new and improved city version of Clava Books mere days away, things appear to be settling down. Other than the terrible nightmares about dragons, that is. Or the fact that she's being constantly tailed by a string of mages, shifters, and faeries, all of whom are constantly demanding her attention. And that's without even bringing the temptation of Corrigan, Lord Alpha of the Brethren, into the equation.

Mack might be, to all intents and purposes, a normal looking human, but she lives with a pack of shapeshifters in Cornwall in rural England after being dumped there by her mother when she was just a young child. She desperately wants to be accepted by her surrogate family, not least because a lot of them hate her for merely being human, but for some reason her blood just won't allow the transformation to occur.

Life's no fun being a dragon, especially when you are forced into responsibilities that involve trying to keep the peace between an array of shifters, mages, and faeries in order to bring down the scariest and deadliest foe the Otherworld has ever seen. And that's not to mention the fact that your own soul mate hates your guts. Mack Smith, a fiery Draco Wyr, is battling to come to terms with her emotions, her heritage, and her true capabilities. All she has to do is defeat Endor, win back Corrigan, and live happily ever after.

Mack begins her training at the mages' academy in the hope that, by complying, the stasis spell will be lifted from her old friend Mrs. Alcoon. However, once there, she finds herself surrounded by unfriendly adults and petulant teenagers, the majority of whom seem determined to see her fail. Feeling attacked on all fronts, Mack finds it harder and harder to keep a rein on her temper. Forced to attend anger management classes and deal with the predatory attentions of Corrigan, the Lord Alpha of the shapeshifter world, her emotions start to unravel.

Lass die Magie fliegen! Nachdem sie den Klauen von Corrigan, dem Lord Alpha der Bruderschaft, entschlüpfen konnte, versucht Mack sich nun auf ein ruhiges Leben in der ländlichen Idylle von Inverness. Weit weg von allem - insbesondere fort von den Gestaltwandlern. Als Mack dann noch einen Job in einer kleinen Buchhandlung ergattern kann, scheint das Leben perfekt zu sein... für einen kurzen Moment! Denn die Besitzerin des Ladens - eine rätselhafte ältere Dame - scheint nicht nur ein Faible für Kräuterkunde zu haben, sondern weiß auch mehr, als sie vorgibt.
