In 1969, about a year removed from the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., students at Dudley High School in Greensboro, North Carolina started protesting after a black student was barred from the ballot in the race for student council president. Unrest broke out on campus. Eventually, the protests made their way to North Carolina A&T State University campus and gunshots rang out. The National Guard was called to campus.
