It was Christmas Eve, and all of the elves and Santa Claus were excited to get all of the toys ready to deliver to children around the world. But Santa had one last chore to do. He wanted to give little presents to all of the animals in the forest, including Barney Bear, who was asleep in his cave. When Santa quietly places Barney’s present next to his nose, Barney snores like thunder and a mountain of snow crashes to the ground and covers the entrance to the cave. Hier im Zirkus ist wenigstens was los! Doch das abenteuerlustige Nilpferd bringt beinahe alles durcheinander und platzt abends sogar in die Zirkusvorstellung! Wie das wohl alles enden wird?

Im Zirkus Donelli ist eine ansteckende Krankheit ausgebrochen - die Faulheit. Keiner will mehr arbeiten. Die Elefanten nicht, die Affen nicht, die Pudel nicht - wie soll nun die Vorstellung laufen? Gegen Faulheit ist anscheinend kein Kraut gewachsen. Juri und Janka versuchen mit einigen anderen Tieren die Vorstellung zu retten. Sie lassen sich eine ganze Menge einfallen, um die anderen Tiere zu ersetzen. Und der Zirkusdirektor weiß von nichts.

Im Zirkus Donelli sind die Vorbereitungen für das neue Programm in vollem Gange. Auch die Cappuccinos, eine Affenfamilie, übt fleißig ihre neue Seilnummer. Der kleine Giannelli darf dabei helfen. Doch als er gerade mal nicht aufpasst, geschieht etwas Schlimmes. Ob sein Vater, der große Cappuccino, ihm jemals verzeihen wird?

Im Zirkus Donelli taucht ein Waschbär auf. Er heißt Nicky Naseweis und ist ein alter Freund von Käpt'n Quasselbacke, dem Papagei. Nicky erzählt merkwürdige Geschichten aus Käpt'n Quasselbackes dunkler Vergangenheit und sorgt damit für einige Unruhen. Kann man ihm glauben? Juri ist sich da nicht so sicher. Außerdem geschehen noch andere seltsame Dinge: Immer häufiger verschwinden die Requisiten der Zirkustiere auf unerklärliche Weise.

Eine neue Löwenfamilie ist im Zirkus angekommen. Leider gibt es mit dem eingebildeten Löwenvater Sir Babaluga schon bald Ärger. Die beiden Bärenkinder Juri und Janka versuchen, sich mit seinem Sohn, dem kleinen Louie, anzufreunden. Doch eines Abends kommen die Bärenkinder und der kleine Löwe nicht nach Hause. Was ist nur geschehen? Ob die Kanalratten etwas mit dem Verschwinden zu tun haben?
