In fact, one-third of all murders in America remain open. But thanks to dogged investigators and breakthroughs in forensic technology, these cases become part of the rare 1% of cold cases that are ever solved. Cold Case Files is hosted by Paula Barros.

Eighteen baffling true crime cold cases—solved! A young girl walking home from a Halloween party is snatched from the street by two lowlife brothers. What happens next is pure evil. A woman is gunned down on her doorstep by an assassin in a clown suit. The clues point to an unlikely suspect. Thirty years after a teenager's death, her killer finally breaks down and confesses, claiming he's being tormented by his victim's ghost. Killing was his business, rape and robbery his stock in trade. Eventually, though, your sins catch up with you.

During a summer heatwave, teenagers are going missing. Junior officer Alex Finn takes the case and fears that the disappearances are linked. In a race against the clock to find and rescue the children alive, Finn and his team are only partially successful. Two of the children are saved, but they were too late for Oliver. And the killer got away. DI Alex Finn is still tormented by the cases of his youth - none more than so than the 2009 kidnappings. And it seems someone else has not forgotten either.

The savage murder of a disabled woman sends police on a decades-long hunt for a cowardly killer. One small detail might unlock the mystery. Fire had always been John Veysey's friend. Sometimes it put money in his pocket. Other times, it covered the evidence of his evil deeds.

When Gregory M. Cooper, former head of the FBI's Behavioral Sciences Unit, founded the Cold Case Foundation in 2013, he had high expectations, but couldn't anticipate the level of response. What started with just a half-dozen or so retired FBI agents and homicide detectives has ballooned to more than 150 women and men who volunteer their time to help families of deceased or missing loved ones bring closure to cases that have gone "cold."

One day in 1987, Fred Wilkerson up and vanished in Troup County, Georgia. It was a mystery beset with suspicious circumstances, but the evidence never led anywhere, and the case went cold, Wilkerson's whereabouts unknown. That is, until a remarkable set of circumstances allowed author and investigator Clay Bryant to breathe life back into the case nearly two decades later.
