In the third novel of the Liaden Universe, Priscilla Delacroix is betrayed and abandoned by her shipmates. But confronting the crew will be far easier - and safer - than confronting the demons of her past.

Leaving the planet Fleece far behind them, the Aurora and her mixed crew have two missions. The first is to return the human research vessel Geoffrey Laird back to Earth safe and unharmed. Afterward, the second task is to return to Quetanae space and search for any pockets of survivors from Kodo and Kalaya's home world. Sounds simple enough. But, of course, unknown sinister forces are gathering.

In the end, we won the war, but we lost the peace. The Flock surrendered and spent the next two hundred years making reparations, indentured to humanity, doing everything humans did not want to do.
