Jakob Grimm (1785 - 1863) y su hermano, Wilhelm (1786 - 1859), nacieron en Hanau, Hesse (Alemania). A los 20 años de edad, Jakob trabajaba como bibliotecario y Wilhelm como secretario de la biblioteca. Antes de llegar a los 30 años, habían logrado sobresalir gracias a sus publicaciones. "The Snow Queen" (Danish: Snedronningen) is an original fairy tale written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. The tale was first published 21 December 1844 in New Fairy Tales. First Volume. Second Collection. 1845. (Danish: Nye Eventyr. Første Bind. Anden Samling. 1845.) The story centres on the struggle between good and evil as experienced by Gerda and her friend, Kai. The story is one of Andersen's longest and most highly acclaimed stories.

The father sends his sons to fetch water for her, in the German version to be baptized, in the Greek version to take water from a healing spring. In their haste, they drop the jug in the well. When they do not return, their father thinks that they have gone off to play and curses them and so they turn into ravens.
