Bereits die Erstfassung des Buches, die nach jahrelangem Rechtsstreit mit Suhrkamp erst 2006 verlegt wurde, war sehr schnell vergriffen. Suhrkamp, obschon seit 1999 zur Verbreitung vertraglich verpflichtet, zog es vor, sich darauf zu konzentrieren, dieses Werk der deutschen Öffentlichkeit vorzuenthalten.
