F. F. Bosworth (1877-1958) was an evangelist, an early religious broadcaster, and a Pentecostal faith healer. During the 1920s he was known for his "big tent revival" and large auditorium meetings and his demonstrations of faith healing, with people from all denominations attending. Today Bosworth is best known for his book Christ the Healer, which now has over 500,000 copies in print. This recording is from one of his sermons.

Frederick Brotherton Meyer (1847-1929) was a Baptist pastor and evangelist in England involved in ministry and inner city mission work on both sides of the Atlantic. He was a friend of D. L. Moody and A. C. Dixon, and the author of numerous religious books and articles. Referring constantly to scripture in "The Secret of Guidance", Meyer calls on believers to examine their inner motives, to consider how they ought to be receptive to God’s guidance. The book emphasizes spiritual formation and the practical application of Christian precepts in daily life.

It's uncertain that Howard Thurman made the remark often attributed to him, "I have been writing this book all my life," but there is little doubt that he was deeply immersed in reflection on the times that bear an uncanny resemblance to the present day, which give voice to the Black Lives Matter movement.
