Geronimo (1829 – 1909) was a legendary leader of the Bedonkohe Apache, fiercely opposing Mexican and American encroachments on Apache territory throughout the tumultuous Apache Wars. The name Geronimo was bestowed upon him during a fierce battle with Mexican soldiers.
