Il manoscritto è costituito da quarantaquattro poesie, che trattano problematiche attuali, danno voce a chi voce non ha: a persone che a torto non vengono ascoltate, perché ritenute non importanti e quindi, anche se hanno voce, vengono tramutate in persone mute dall'indifferenza generale. Io dono la mia voce perché possano difendersi e farsi valere per gridare le loro ragioni. Queste tematiche vengono affrontate con uno stile personale diretto e descrittivo, attraverso il quale l'ascoltatore riesce a vedere quello che sussurro al suo cuore.

Siamo sul suo letto, ci baciamo. In sottofondo una canzone che le ho scritto. Lei è sopra e mi guarda. Che dolore nel ricordo di quello sguardo, l'avevo quasi rimosso completamente. Mi stava abbandonando come io avevo fatto con lei, non c'era più nulla che io potessi fare per riprendere la sua fiducia. Colleziono mancanze, tra queste, la sua è quella più preziosa che ho nei miei ricordi.

Per Pirandello l'immaginazione è una delle due vie di fuga dalle "trappole" della vita (famiglia e lavoro). La prima cosa che arriva di Giovanna è la voce: argentina, decisa, sensuale. Fa pensare a qualcuno che avanzi sulle miserie quotidiane come un felino. Ecco perché, fin da subito, l'io narrante la battezza Donnagatto, sebbene Giovanna sia paralizzata, proprio come lei. Al contrario di lei, però, rivendica il diritto a desiderare ancora, sfidando l'imperfezione del mondo. La Donnagatto nasconde un segreto, e forse ha trovato una persona cui confessarlo, consegnandole la propria storia. Una storia dove è solo apparente il confine tra la condanna e la grazia.
