Ernest Hemingway was an American novelist and short-story writer, widely considered one of the greatest writers of the 20th century. Hemingway's writing style was characterized by its spare and concise prose, and he was known for his ability to convey deep emotions through simple, direct language. Hemingway's most famous works include "The Sun Also Rises," "A Farewell to Arms," and "The Old Man and the Sea."

The 1925 New York edition of Ernest Hemingway’s In Our Time trails readers through the years before, during, and after World War I. Ernest Hemingway’s In Our Time provides listeners a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story following lead character Nick Adams through a series of short stories around the time of World War I. When Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961) published Three Stories and 10 Poems in 1923, he was 24, a wounded veteran of the Great War, and still three years away from publishing his debut novel (The Sun Also Rises). Its title is derived from the English Book of Common Prayer, "Give peace in our time, O Lord". The stories' themes of alienation, loss, grief, and separation continue the work Hemingway began with the vignettes, which include descriptions of acts of war, bullfighting and current events.
