Stranded in the middle of Antarctica, Concordia Station is so far from any point of civilization that it was dubbed "White Mars." But the freezing temperatures and the prolonged isolation aren't the only problems that the crew has to face. When the research team returns with a new specimen discovered deep inside the frozen underground lake, things take a foul turn for the station members. They don't realize how intelligent this lifeform is. They don't realize how long it lay dormant, waiting to be discovered; waiting for its opportunity to leave the ice and infect the world.

An alien, Tashan Zho, on a rescue mission to the distant planet Earth is transported into the dying body of bootlegger Ryan Costello. Upon his death, Costello’s body is reanimated by the alien and endowed with supernatural powers. Unfortunately, the body is so damaged from years of alcohol abuse that the alien’s memory and his vital files are corrupted. All that remains of his mission plan is one phrase: “Find the one called Mike Kelly.”

The planet of Azure is nearly idyllic: There is a high standard of living, industry is booming, and the two races — Human and Wrogul — get along well with each other most days. But underneath it all, there is tension between the races. Despite having no reason for it, the Humans don’t always trust the Wrogul, and there is a faction within the Wrogul community that doesn’t want its young growing up “Human.”
