"Die krumme Janet" (engl. "Thrawn Janet") ist eine Kurzgeschichte des schottischen Schriftstellers Robert Louis Stevenson aus dem Jahr 1881, die 1887 in der Sammlung "Die tollen Männer und andere Geschichten" (engl. "The Merry Men and Other Tales and Fables") bei Chatto & Windus erschien. Der Autor hat die kleine Gespenstergeschichte während eines Aufenthaltes im schottischen Hochland verfasst. Kritiker nennen den Text "seit je als eins seiner Meisterstücke".

Lettice Galbraith is yet another of those mysterious women of British literature of whom little was recorded. Lizzie Susan Gibson was born on the 27th January 1859 in Kingston-Upon-Hull in Yorkshire into a comfortable middle-class family. In 1885 she published her first story anonymously and her pseudonym ‘Lettice Galbraith’ only appeared from late 1892. Although her canon of works is small, she mainly achieved her reputation on a single volume of ghost and supernatural stories entitled ‘New Ghost Stories’.

Edith Nesbit was born on the 15th August 1858 in Kennington, then part of Surrey. Due to the health issues and tuberculosis of her sister Mary, Nesbit’s early life was one of constant changes of house both in England and on the continent. At age 17, Nesbit met Hubert Bland and they married three years later. They also edited the Society's journal; ‘Today’. Nesbit was an active lecturer and prolific writer on socialism during those years but gradually her work for them dwindled as her career as a children’s writer grew.

Bithia Mary Sheppard was born in Kilgefin, County Roscommon, Ireland, the only daughter of an Anglican Church of Ireland rector. She was educated at Rockferry, Cheshire and in Tours, France. Bithia only began writing at the age of 33 and in her life wrote 42 novels and 7 volumes of short stories. Within her short story creations are much anthologized ghost, supernatural and macabre tales. Many of her novels reveal a side of Empire that is undeniably of its time and a fine example of both talent and observation.
