Olavs drømme er en drømmelignende, urovækkende og klaustrofobisk fortælling som mest af alt minder om en bibelsk lignelse. Det er en lysende skildring af kærligheden mellem to unge mennesker og en historie om et uopklaret mord. I Andvake tager Alida og Asle til Björgvin for at finde arbejde og et sted at bo. Alida er gravid og føder et barn. I Olavs drømme forlader de byen, men Asle, som nu kalder sig Olav, rejser tilbage til Björgvin for at købe en gave til Alida, som nu kalder sig Åsta.
