Henry Louis Gehrig (June 19, 1903 to June 2, 1941), born in New York City, was an American baseball player who played 17 seasons for the New York Yankees (1923-1939). The following recording is a radio interview from August 1939 after Gehrig had retired from baseball due to his illness, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), an incurable neuromuscular illness which, since then, is often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's disease."

Tyrus Raymond Cobb (December 18, 1886-July 17, 1961), nicknamed "the Georgia Peach", was an American Major League Baseball center fielder. Born in rural Narrows, Georgia, Cobb spent 22 seasons with the Detroit Tigers, the last six as the team's player-manager, and finished his career with the Philadelphia Athletics. In this recording, Cobb discusses the best pitchers he ever faced, and life after his baseball retirement.
