Locke Lamora ist ein Held. Nein, eigentlich ist er das nicht: Er ist ein Dieb, ein Lügner und ein Ganove, wenn auch mit guten Manieren. Mit seiner Bande bewegt er sich in den Kanälen und engen Gassen des Herzogtums Camorr, um die Nobilität um ihre Schätze zu erleichtern. Und darin ist Locke unschlagbar, denkt er zumindest. Bis ein weiterer Verbrecher in Camorr auftaucht. Locke muss handeln - und das Abenteuer seines Lebens beginnt.
