My husband is dead. I attended his funeral. I watched his casket be lowered six feet into the ground. (Actually, it may have been only five feet, but that still seems like more than enough.) And then we ate an array of finger sandwiches and deviled eggs and miniature beef wellingtons that cost more than my first car. My point is, Grant is gone. And so are all his many, many deep, dark secrets which I never really ever bothered to ask him about. He is never coming back.

She’s trying her very best to be a good person, but it’s harder than she thought it would be and, if she’s honest, which she’s mostly not; it’s a bit boring. Is she more like Mother than she’d care to admit?

Back home after her life changing moment at Frogham train station, it seems that Alison's life is looking up, and there's even a possibility of romance on the horizon. Maybe she can finally stop lying. But it's not very long before it all starts to go wrong, and when Alison makes an enemy of Blake's new girlfriend, she decides it's time to get herself a proper job and make something of herself.

In questa novella di Luigi Pirandello, Gaetano Marino ci narra la storia di Spatolino, muratore capomastro che lavora per il comune, famoso per la sua fede e la sua devozione. Una novella in cui Pirandello si diverte a descrivere con grande ironia la società siciliana del tempo e, soprattutto, il suo rapporto con la fede e la religione cattolica.

In questa novella Pirandello ci presenta Aurelio, un anziano che ha condotto una vita molto sfortunata, tanto da sembrare una caricatura del Giobbe biblico. Privato di tutto, passa ormai le giornate visitando le chiese di Roma. Durante una delle sue visite però si appisolerà e farà un sogno molto strano...

"Jeri e oggi" venne pubblicata da Pirandello per la prima volta nel giugno del 1919 ne "Il Messaggero della domenica", anche se l'autore siciliano l'aveva scritta già nel 1915. In questa novella facciamo la conoscenza di Marino Lerna, giovane sottotenente romano. Il ragazzo sta partendo per il fronte e i genitori lo salutano disperati.
