The combined talents of Rob Grant and Andrew Marshall have had a large influence on British television. With Grant being the cocreator of Red Dwarf and former head writer of Spitting Image and Marshall responsible for 2point4children, Dad and Health & Efficiency, it seems only natural that they would team up for a radio series and novel collaboration with The Quanderhorn Xperimentations, a period sci-fi fantasy published in 2018. Rob Grant and Andrew Marshall talk to us about their latest novel spin-off, the inspiration behind it and what it’s like to write in partnership.

A charming, quirky memoir from British author Arthur Calder-Marshall, recalling his youth in 1920s England. The title needs to be taken quite literally as much of the narrative revolves around the shadowy figure of occultist Aleister Crowley, at the height of his dubious powers during this era. As boys growing up in a small country town, Arthur and his brother befriend an eccentric poet, whom they dub Vicky Bird—in fact a fairly well-known literary figure called Victor Neuberg. He is haunted by some romantic tragedy in his past, in which Crowley may be implicated.

Between the years of 1762 and 1763, James Boswell kept a journal of his time in London. During his time, he met the renowned writer, moralist, and lexicographer Samuel Johnson, with whom Boswell would form a close relationship. This account, told with much detail and candor, was one of the various journals written by Boswell, but it is the journal that has undergone the least amount of censorship, leading it, and the racy material within, to be deemed a best seller upon publication.

Joining us in the Audible Studios to discuss his new book, China’s Great Wall of Debt, is former Wall Street Journal reporter and financial expert Dinny McMahon. Having spent 13 years in China as a journalist specialising in the banking and financial sector, McMahon has spent his career reporting on China’s economy. He wrote his first book, China’s Great Wall of Debt, whilst a fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, DC. Dinny McMahon talks to us about what his book reveals, how China’s economy is viewed globally and how he overcame the challenges of reporting in China.
