Harvey Milk - eloquent, charismatic, and a smart-aleck - was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977, but he had not even served a full year in office when he was shot by a homophobic fellow supervisor. Milk's assassination at the age of 48 made him the most famous gay man in modern history; 20 years later, Time magazine included him on its list of the hundred most influential individuals of the 20th century.

Ram Krishna Das Vaishnaba, or Dude Dehari Baba, or Milk Baba was so named because he lived forty-five years entirely on one small cup of milk per day. No other food ever passed his lips. Baba lived in a small room by the Bagmati river at Pashiputinath temple, five kilometers outside of Katmandu. His beautiful matted hair, or jata, was over twenty-six feet long. Baba was a lifelong devotee of Lord Rama and God Brother and confidant of Neem Karoli Baba, the iconic guru of Baba Ram Das.

"In that moment I knew the meaning of milk-blood. Desperate addicts will decant some of their own blood while the drug is still pumping through their veins to save as 'insurance' to inject later." Adrian Simon, 38, is the son of Warren Fellows, the infamous heroin smuggler who was imprisoned in Bangkwang Prison in Bangkok for 12 years and published the best-selling memoir The Damage Done. But Warren wasn't the only one affected by the experience.

Harvey Bernard Milk (May 22, 1930-November 27, 1978), born in Woodmere, NY, was a US Navy veteran, businessman, and Democrat politician who, on November 8, 1977, became the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California, as a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. A year later, on November 27, 1978, Milk and San Francisco Mayor George Moscone were assassinated by disgruntled former City Supervisor Dan White in the offices of San Francisco's City Hall.
