Deres tre sidst solgte biler er alle blevet stjålet kort tid efter, at de er blevet leveret til kunderne, og bilfirmaet frygter negativ omtale, hvis det slipper ud. De tilbyder APS 30.000 kr. for at afsløre biltyvene. I forbindelse med opklaringen kommer børnene i besiddelse af oplysninger, der relaterer forbrydelsen til en nær bekendt.

Detektivbureauet APS står for Aske, Paprika og Sander og løser alle opgaver med fuld diskretion. Det påstår de i hvert fald på hjemmesiden, de har lavet mest for sjov. Men da der pludselig tikker en opgave ind, er det svært at takke nej, når prisen for at løse den er 10.000 kroner, og man er i pengenød. Også selvom børnene er nødt til at tage hele vejen fra Sjælland til Sønderjylland og bo hos Sanders sære onkel, og det hele pludselig ikke længere kun er sjov ...
