The extermination of Earth is at hand. With his increasingly irrational leadership Basil Wenceslas, chairman of the Hansa, has driven humanity into a corner. His punitive treatment of the Hansa colonies and the Roamers, as well as his refusal to aid an embattled Theroc, have made enemies for the people of Earth.

Carrera's held off his enemies coming by sea from the north, in the process dealing the naval and amphibious forces of the Zhong Empire a stinging defeat. The Zhong won't soon forget the blood-stained waters and the heaped-up bodies on the shores of Balboa's Isla Real. Now, though, his adopted country of Balboa is under assault from the east, from the south, from the west, from the air, and from space.

After a life of hiding and laying low so as not to end up trapped in the Underworld, that's exactly where Reagan finds herself. It could be worse, though. She could've had a hostile father as her jailor instead of a man eager to teach her magic. She might've been trapped with someone other than the steadfast Druid. She could've gone her whole life without riding a dragon! When push comes to shove, maybe the Underworld isn't so bad. Or maybe Lucifer is doing what he does best—deceiving her to get what he wants.

With Lucifer wanting revenge and the elves desperate to hold onto their power, a battle is inevitable. The question is, which side will Reagan choose? The elves have treated her and her friends badly. Lucifer held her captive. Will she claim revenge…or will she seek to help balance the worlds? Is that even possible?
