Story38
Remarkably relevant, beautifully written, and filled with wit and wisdom, these three essays by Bertrand Russell allow the listener to test the concepts of the good life, morality, the existence of God, Christianity, and human nature. "What I Believe" was used prominently in the 1940 New York court proceedings in which Russell was judicially declared "unfit" to teach philosophy at City College of New York. "Why I Am Not a Christian" concludes that churches throughout history have retarded progress and states that we should instead "look to our own efforts here below to make this world a fit place to live in." Finally, "A Free Man's Worship", perhaps the most famous single essay written by Russell, considers whether humans operate from free will.

Israel is a lovely country. Since it is in the Middle East, it has not been exempt from a turbulent political climate. Although many Israelis have great respect for Jewish values and culture, it is quite common to get caught up in the maelstrom of politics and lose sight of the bigger picture. This show attempts to take a step back and look at things from a calm point of view - in Hebrew, a "Mabat Ragu'a."

The Emerald Tablet of Hermes & Kybalion compose two pillars of Hermetic thought. Combined here in one volume, these two works share true wisdom with those ready to receive it. The Kybalion was first published anonymously in 1908 by “The Three Initiates.” The true authorship of the work is unknown, although theories suggest it was written entirely or in part by William Walker Atkinson. The Emerald Tablet of Hermes is a short, ancient text attributed to Hermes Trismegistus. The brief Emerald Tablet has been puzzling and fascinating scholars for over 1,000 years.

Story0
This compelling 1845 publication by a notable reformer passionately critiques capital punishment from multiple angles, including historical, philosophical, and biblical perspectives. Divided into three insightful chapters—Expediency, Justice, and Sacred Scriptures—the text weaves in Scripture references throughout. The author, Burleigh, engages in a thoughtful dialogue with George B. Cheever, a key advocate for the death penalty of that era. With the hope that this work will contribute, even modestly, to the advancement of humane reform and hasten the day when the laws of a Christian and ...

Story0
After years of laboring on a treatise that laid the groundwork for his mechanistic philosophy and physics, Descartes found himself compelled to set the project aside when his contemporary, Galileo, faced charges of heresy. This unfinished work, titled The World, was ultimately published only after Descartes’ passing. It appears that this turbulent context influenced Descartes as he penned his more renowned philosophical writings. This influence is particularly evident in the Meditations, where not only the subservience of the Letter of Dedication is apparent, but also in the distinctive ...

Story0
In the wake of the heresy propagated by Arius, which diminished the dignity of the Holy Ghost alongside that of the Son, St. Basil was compelled to clarify the true nature of the Holy Spirit. Arius claimed that the Three Persons of the Holy Trinity were fundamentally different in essence and glory. While the Nicene Creed provided clarity regarding the Son, it left the doctrine of the Holy Spirit somewhat ambiguous—not due to uncertainty, but because this aspect of Arian thought was less pronounced. In 374, Amphilochius, a close relative and spiritual confidant of Basil, encouraged him to ...
