Once on a Time is a whimsical fairy tale satire that turns classic tropes on their heads. When war breaks out between two small kingdoms over a trivial insult, an unlikely heroine, a pompous prince, and a villainous noblewoman navigate a hilariously absurd adventure. A.A. Milne’s playful wit makes this a delight for adults and children alike.

Story0
Old Times on the Mississippi is a non-fiction work by Mark Twain. It was published in 1876. Originally published in serial form in the Atlantic Monthly, in 1875, this same work was published as chapters 4 through 17 in Twain's later work, Life on the Mississippi (1883). Old Times on the the Mississippi has one last chapter that has nothing to do with the rest of the book. A Literary Nightmare describes the funny/sad/maddening effect that a catchy jingle can have on those unlucky enough to be captured by one. (Summary by John Greenman)

Craig Childs bears witness to rock art of the Colorado Plateau—bighorn sheep pecked behind boulders, tiny spirals in stone, human figures with upraised arms shifting with the desert light, each one a portal to the open mouth of time. With a spirit of generosity, humility, and love of the arid, intricate landscapes of the desert Southwest, Childs sets these ancient communications in context, inviting listeners to look and listen deeply.
