The CBS Radio series Orson Welles' Almanac was usually a half-hour variety show. But on June 7, 1944, the day after the D-Day landing in France by Allied forces, Welles presented this special dramatic broadcast. Starring Agnes Moorehead, it takes the form of a mother's letter to her son (with a Wellesian twist at the end).

DuPont’s motto, “maker of better things for better living through chemistry,” was read at the beginning of each program, and the dramas emphasized humanitarian progress, particularly improvements in the lives of women, often through technological innovation.
