In 1900, an 18-year-old Spaniard named Pablo Picasso made his first trip to Paris. It was in this glittering capital of the international art world that, after suffering years of poverty and neglect, he emerged as the leader of a bohemian band of painters, sculptors, and poets. Fueled by opium and alcohol, inspired by raucous late-night conversations at the Lapin Agile cabaret, Picasso and his friends resolved to shake up the world.

We have all seen, whether live, in photographs or on postcards, some of Claude Monet's legendary water lily paintings. They are in museums all over the world and are among the most beloved works of art of the past century. Yet, ironically, these soothing images were created amid terrible personal turmoil and sadness.

국민일보 미술 담당 손영옥 기자가 미술품 구매 대중화를 목적으로, 평범한 월급쟁이가 감상과 투자를 겸해 미술품을 사려면 얼마가 있어야 하고, 어디서 구입해야 하며, 어떤 기준으로 선택해야 하는가에 대해 답을 담은 『아무래도 그림을 사야겠습니다』. 저자는 빠듯한 월급 탓에 외투를 더 장만해야 하나 말아야 하나를 고민하는, 자신과 같은 처지의 직장인을 위한 미술품 구매 안내서가 필요하다는 생각으로 이 책을 출간했다.

Si hubiera que definir con una sola palabra la pintura románica, tendríamos que llamarla "antinaturalista". La pintura románica, igual que la bizantina, resulta poco naturalista comparada con la desarrollada desde el Renacimiento hasta el siglo XIX. Mas no debe achacarse todo a la torpeza técnica de sus autores. No se trata de torpeza técnica. Para comprender el fenómeno de la pintura románica debemos remontarnos un poco más atrás y recordar los rumbos que tomó la civilización europea y el arte cristiano desde el Bajo Imperio Romano.

En el siglo XV discurre en Cataluña y Levante bajo la influencia de las dos grandes escue­las renacentistas europeas: italiana y flamenca. En Castilla la pintura del siglo XV sigue un rumbo diferente que hemos de analizar con más detalle. Ante todo, hemos de decir que se nota un sensible retraso entre los estilos renacentistas de Cataluña y Castilla. Es un retraso espacial, puesto que Cataluña se halla en contacto directo con los focos franceses, y mantiene con Italia un ininterrumpido comercio marítimo.
