Privatdetektiv Philip Maloney ermittelt mit Charme, Schalk und unverkennbarer Raubeinigkeit. Seine Fälle werden ihm von seinen Klienten zugetragen und beginnen harmlos, doch stösst Maloney im Laufe der Ermittlungen meistens auf eine Leiche.
