Peggy Caserta, founder of the famous Haight-Ashbury hippie boutique Mnasidika and lover and girlfriend of Janis Joplin, was a Louisiana homecoming queen turned airsick stewardess who eventually landed in 1960s San Francisco and set up shop. Her store was a hang-out for The Grateful Dead and Big Brother and the Holding Company; it was where Wes Wilson’s posters hung, where Bill Graham sold concert tickets, and where Owsley’s LSD was enjoyed.

Haar hele leven heeft Lara al het gevoel dat ze niet goed genoeg is. Ze staat in de schaduw van haar 'perfecte' broer, terwijl haar ouders zo ongeveer alles bekritiseren wat zij doet. Het leven op de familieboerderij heeft ze daarom zo snel mogelijk achter zich gelaten. Maar dan komt het moment dat haar ouders iemand zoeken om de melkveehouderij over te nemen. Hoewel ze absoluut geen voorkeur hebben voor Lara, voelt dit tegen beter weten in voor haar als dé kans om aan haar ouders te laten zien wat ze in zich heeft.
