One quiet snow-covered Sunday morning in Bruges, a prominent business executive is found dead in the streets, apparently due to an alcoholic hemorrhage, but for Inspector Van In, there is something about the autopsy that does not add up. When he questions the businessman's friend, a Dutchman, he too is found dead the next morning, burned to death in a house fire.

Dimman ligger tät över London. Dr Watson och Sherlock Holmes kan knappt se huset på andra sidan gatan från lägenheten på Baker Street. Det är en lugn tid i staden, ingenting av intresse tycks hända och de båda herrarna är uttråkade. Tills Sherlocks bror Mycroft hör av sig. "Måste tala med dig angående Cardogan Wests, kommer med ens" lyder telegrammet. Det visar sig att den unga mannen West har fallit av ett tåg och avlidit tidigare under morgonen, till synes en olycka.

Als der Hungerkünstler Ricardo Sacco zufällig einem jungen, hübschen Mädchen zu Hilfe eilt und es vor einem brutalen Überfall bewahrt, ist es auch schon um den jungen Mann geschehen. Zum Dank schenkt ihm Ines, die Tochter eines reichen Mannes, einen Brillanten. Ricardo Sacco kann sein Glück kaum fassen, doch es währt nicht lange. Sein langjähriger Feind, der sich als sein Doppelgänger ausgibt, ist ihm auf den Fersen. Und dann nimmt das Unglück seinen Lauf! Doch Holmes und Watson sind schnell zur Stelle.

The Valley of Fear is the fourth and final Sherlock Holmes novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It is loosely based on the Molly Maguires and Pinkerton agent James McParland. The story was first published in the Strand Magazine between September 1914 and May 1915. The novel starts with Sherlock Holmes receiving a cipher message from Fred Porlock, a pseudonymous agent of Professor Moriarty. After Porlock sends the message, however, he changes his mind for fear of Moriarty's discovering that he is a traitor. He decides not to send the key to the cipher, but he sends Holmes a note telling of this decision.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson visit "Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show", which is on a big tour through the Empire. During the show, however, one of the Performers, who was acting as Ghost Dog, Chief of the Lakota tribe, mysteriously falls from his horse and succumbs to his injuries. Colonel William F. Cody instructs Holmes to investigate the incident.

Baron Collingwood's eldest son and title heir dies from a mysterious illness. Now that the second eldest son is also in bad condition, it seems that a curse has befallen the family. Neither doctors nor police are able to find the cause. Confronted with a riddle the Baron hires Holmes and Watson to solve the mystery before it is tool late.

On behalf of the British Museum Holmes and Watson travel to Wales. A dinosaur skull that was found in a coal mine was stolen before its transport to London. Finding the thief, however, turns out to be a challenge. It seems that the Celtic natives have other plans with the fossil.

There is a mole hiding in the British Embassy in Brussels. Important secret papers regarding the colonial politics have been stolen. In order to keep a diplomatic and international crisis from happening Holmes and Watson travel, of course incognito, to Belgium. There they want to put a stop to the traitor's game.

Inspector Lestrade asks Sherlock Holmes for help when the Chinese owner of an opium cave is murdered in London. Holmes, however, is not in full possession of his detecting skills, and Dr. Watson has to take over at first. At the scene he finds a big mystery.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson are preparing to travel to Birmingham to assist the local police in a difficult case. However, they are surprisingly stopped by a suspected client. The young man from America asks Holmes for help, but then things get a little out of hand.

'The Adventure of Black Peter' is one of 56 Sherlock Holmes short stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. Holmes endeavours to understand the series of events that led to a peculiar murder scene involving a man impaled by a harpoon.

It is strange to consider that, although The Hound Of The Baskervilles is Conan Doyle’s most popular novel, his hero is absent for much of the time. Notice how he sets up an atmosphere of supernatural horror right from the start through Dr Mortimer’s reading of the ancient curse, and how he then presents as assortment of bizarre clues – in particular, the riddle of the missing boots – which Holmes will have to unravel.
