Five new pastiche stories of the world's greatest detective. These stories are shorter than the other novellas in the New Sherlock Holmes Mysteries set and were published earlier in either the MX Books or Belanger Books anthologies of Sherlock Holmes stories (Edited by David Marcum). 'The Singular Tragedy of the Atkinson Brothers at Trincomalee' is one of the unpublished cases we hear about in The Canon. The story Takes Holmes and Watson to the tropical island of Ceylon on behalf of the Foreign Office to investigate the murder of one of the Atkinson brothers.

A few days before Christmas Inspector Lestrade is asking Holmes for assistance in a strange murder case. The extremely challenging and downright dangerous investigation leads them to a catholic abbey in Middlesex, where evil strikes terror into people's hearts.

What happened after Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson pardoned Captain Jack Croker for killing Sir Eustace at the Abbey Grange. Holmes sends Watson on ahead to investigate and report. More terrifying horrors occur and Sherlock Holmes must come and solve the awful mystery before more people are murdered. A tribute to the original story in the Canon, Arthur Conan Doyle's masterpiece, The Hound of the Baskervilles.

Wenig später wird der Ratsherr Jakobus Ehrenhoff am Henkersteg aufgeknüpft. Um seinen Hals baumelt der Rest eines vergifteten Lebkuchenherzens. Pistoux scheint der rechte Mann an der rechten Stelle zu sein, denn die Ermittlungen drehen sich im Kreis und der in einer stadtbekannten Zuckerbäckerei arbeitende Meisterkoch kennt sich aus mit dem Gebäck.

Sherlock Holmes fällt ein merkwürdiges Medaillon in die Hände. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt ahnt er noch nicht, welche weitreichenden Folgen dieser Fund für ihn haben wird. Denn bald darauf schleicht sich ein zwielichtiger Schurke in das Haus in der Bakerstreet, schlägt ihn und die ehrwürdige Mrs. Hudson brutal nieder und legt zu allem Übel noch ein Feuer.

Henry Donelson, Sohn des Major vom 11. Lancier-Regiment zu Bombay, bittet Sherlock Holmes um Hilfe. Der Major brachte eines Tages von seiner Reise aus Indien, zwei Diamanten mit. Einen schenkte er seiner Tochter, den zweiten seinen Sohn. Als der Major verstarb, beauftragt der Sohn, Henry Donelson, seinen Vetter, den Stein schätzen zu lassen und gegeben falls zu veräußern. Doch seitdem fehlt von dem Vetter, wie von dem Diamanten, jede Spur. Als Henry Donelson auch noch Drohbriefe erreichen, weiß er sich keinen anderen Rat mehr, als den großen Detektiv aufzusuchen.

Sherlock Holmes ist bei der reichen Gräfin Olitzky auf Besuch. Diese erzählt Holmes von einem allwissenden Schachautomaten. Es heißt, man könne dem Automaten alle Fragen stellen und dieser könnte sie beantworten. Das einzig Beunruhigende daran war, dass, wo immer der Schachautomat vorstellig war, es kurz darauf einen Unglücksfall innerhalb der Familie gab. Deshalb bittet die Gräfin Sherlock Holmes um dessen Anwesenheit, wenn am selbigen Abend der Schachautomat in ihrem Hause vorgestellt wird.

THE MAN WHO WAS TWISTED BUT HIP. On September 15, 1894, an anarchist attempted to bomb the Greenwich Observatory. He failed, but the attempt led Sherlock Holmes into an intricate web of spies, foreign naval officers, and a beautiful princess. Once again, suspicion landed on poor Percy Phelps, now working in a senior position in the Admiralty, and once again Holmes has to use both his powers of deduction and raw courage to not only rescue Percy, but to prevent an unspeakable disaster.

On the day after Queen Victoria died, the body of a Scotland Yard inspector is found in a locked room in 222 Baker Street, right across the road from the home of Sherlock Holmes. There is no clue as to how he died, but for certain, he was murdered. Then another murder takes place, in the very same room. Scotland Yard calls for the help of Sherlock Holmes, consulting detective. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson might have to offer themselves as potential victims if the culprits are to be discovered.
